Curt, Hayden and I were in the car.
I told Hayden that when we got home he needed to take a nap.
His response?
Hayden: I'm so glad that we don't have monsters in our home.
Curt: Why do you say that?
Hayden: Because they are all afraid of Mommy.
Me: Darn right, they are! Monsters better be afraid of me.
Hayden: *whispering* You get 'em Mom.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hayden: Mom, where do they make peanut butter?
Me: They make it in a factory after people dig up the peanuts.
Hayden: No, where does peanut butter come from?
Me: I don't know, where do you think it comes from?
Hayden: There's this fairy that has a peanut farm and she has a wand and she squished all the peanuts.
Me: Whatever you say.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Driving in the car on the freeway:
Hayden: Go faster mom, people are passing you. Look there goes Fred and Toula!
(Fred and Toula are what we call elderly drivers.)
In this moment: a baby is born into an awaiting family, a grandfather passes into the arms of those gone before. What we do in the middle of these two events determines who we are and who we will become.

Here's a story...
This is a story of a little boy.
Who decided that it was fun to run around in the rain...
and jump into puddles.
The End.

The Best Gift this year!
For Christmas 2009, my parents gave us the best Christmas Gift EVER!
They gave us a 3 month supply of food!
There really is nothing worse than lamenting that you are out of an ingredient and out of funding until next week; only to remember the lovely cans in the back of the hallway. Ahhhhhhhh... there you are.
Tonight is Shepherd's Pie. I get to use the Nonfat Dry Milk, Potato Flakes and dehydrated carrot slices.
How I adore these people who have the foresight to give us this wonderful gift. I love that last year's gift was my rice cooker (from the in-laws) that I now use for the rice that we got this year. Aren't parents wonderful?

The Bully
We have explained to Aaron that fighting is not okay.
He can get angry, but he can't hit or kick things.
Last week at school, one of Aarons friends pushed him into another friend, D.
D, was having a bad day, so he got mad.
Another kid, K, had decided that Aaron and D needed to fight.
At lunch, all the boys waited at the boys' bathroom to see a fight,
because K had told everyone that there would be one.
Aaron left the lunchroom and stayed away from the bathroom.
(He's been told to do this; to avoid fights and find help.)
Because he left without fighting, K started calling Aaron, "Chicken".
The other 6th graders started in on the name-calling.
Aaron came home mad.
I called the principal and we had a lovely talk.
( We were schoolmates MANY years ago and are friends.)
Everything was solved the next day.
Aaron and D became friends again.
AND
K was pointed at as the troublemaker/instigator.
This week, K has been very rude to Aaron.
"You Told" or "Tattletale, your no better than a kindergartner."
As it turns out, K has been harrassing Aaron all year in band.
He's been calling Aaron all kinds of names,
and telling the other boys not to be around Aaron.
Once again, the principal was called.
One more threat or name and K's suspended.
Aaron is happy.
So am I.

I'm so proud...
of ME!
You see....
Our washing machine broke.
I love google and figured someone out there could help me.
So I ripped apart the machine.
Yikes!
This is the offending/broken part!
Curt came home and we went to get a new
part.
So for only $18.00...
It's done!!!!!!!
(and working better than ever!)
I ♥ this stuff.

"Why does he sparkle..."?
My sister in law had this DVR of this SNL skit. I'm not a huge fan of Twilight, but still thought this was pretty funny.
Yes, I know that the words are backwards, but it's still pretty funny. Thanks Kristin!

Happy New Year!
So far, so good.
We had some new friends over and played Apples to Apples. Alyssa was so excited that Jasmin came to play! We ate Pizza and Wings... it was wonderful
Then we played Wii for a few hours... until midnight.
Made midnight waffles... a Porter tradition.
Then played the Wii some more.
It was good.
Pics to follow.
